This Camera review covers the positive and negative aspects of the Canon PowerShot SD880IS camera. The Canon PowerShot Sd880IS camera has a lot of features packed into a small point and shoot camera. Some of the features I like and some I do not.
Reviews of the Canon PowerShot SD880IS
Most of the reviews on the SD880IS have been really excellent, but I fine that the Canon PowerShot SD880IS has only a 32MB memory card which some may think is limiting, but that is easily and inexpensively overcome with a larger card. The lithium ion battery is a toss up. I really like the rechargeable battery, but the AA batteries are easier to find and sometimes more convenient.
The biggest drawback on this Canon PowerShot SD880IS is the lack of an optical viewfinder. I find that I have greater stability holding the camera to my eye.
The Canon Powershot SD880IS has excellent photo quality for its class; optical image stabilization; pleasing interface and design; wide-angle lens.
The Design of the Canon PowerShot SD880IS seems to stay the same, while other companies focus on sleeker and more streamlined designs. Canon went slightly bulkier and more curvaceous with Canon PowerShot SD880IS. It seems that Canon is sticking to the basic silver and gold colors, rather than the bright reds, pinks and blues of other point and shoot camera. This Canon Powershot SD880IS is more rounded and bulged on the side with the controls, rather than being a symmetrical and square camera.
The slim, pocket-size camera, Canon PowerShot SD880IS, will take good family snapshots and vacation photos. The photos will also make for sharp, large prints and online images.
One of the more impressive aspects of the Canon PowerShot SD800IS is the speed and the picture quality. Colors are natural and vibrant. White balance is very accurate and pictures show good detail and sharpness at ISO 200 and below. If you take a lot of landscape photos, Canon PowerShot SD880IS is prone to fringing. Video is better than average considering it tops out a 640×480 camera. Canon also continues to improve it image stabilization and face detection technologies.
The New intelligent Contrast setting (i-Contrast) on the Canon PowerShot SD880IS, theoretically just opens up shadow areas. It can be applied either automatically when you are shooting or alter during playback. I believe you should use it only in playback as more often than not it lightened the entire image, not just dark areas. In playback you can apply the effect in gradual levels as well and create a copy, whereas the camera decides on the level if you shoot with it on.
There is plenty more to talk about with the Canon PowerShot SD880IS, but it only confirms how good a pocket camera it is. If this camera is on your short list, the SD800IS is definitely worth the small additional investment.

Review from Lorie Blackburn from Dallas, Texas
I purchased the SD880IS camera 2 weeks ago. I am in love with this camera as it has a lot of new and improved functions and technology.
New DIGIC 4 technology, up from DIGIC 3 which tries to improve the camera performance in low light and at higher ISO – is it successful? I noted a slight improvement in some shots.
Updated face detection on the Canon PowerShot SD880IS. This helps create better contrast for faces which prevent bleach out colors from faces in the shot. It also has a new Face Detection Self Timer. If you want to take a group shot of everyone including yourself all you need to do is focus the camera on the group and then walk into the group and the camera will detect a new face and click the shot.
4X Zoom (up from 3.8X on SD870) and a wide angle. When taking pictures in close quarters is really made easy with Canon PowerShot SD880IS.
Canon PowerShot SD880IS has many updates that I really don’t even want to go into, so let’s just say, Holy Cow, get this camera today.
Review by Lorien Buckholder of New York
Canon PowerShot SD880IS is a very good and powerful, small “point and shoot” camera which has excellent speed and great picture quality. The wide angle lens really sets this camera apart from other camera in this category. With the wide lens, you can zoom in on your shots without cutting off people heads or objects on the edges. Other camera in this category do not have this ability. I have used Canon’s other wide angle compacts such as the Canon PowerShot SD880IS and loved it, but this newer model adds many upgrades to this model. Some of the Upgrades are, 10 megapixels, fast and powerful Digic 4 processor, motion detection, 4x pocket ability. This is such an awesome point and shoot, Canon PowerShot SD880IS, camera but it is so feature packed and can be adjusted manually with many different options and settings. I highly recommend this Canon PowerShot SD880IS
